Warrant drug arrests made in Alabama

Alabama Law enforcement officials in Covington County made several drug arrests during the weekend, some of which were conducted because of outstanding warrants.

According to an Alabama officer with the 22nd Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force, William Robert Smith and William London Smith, Jr. were arrested because of an outstanding warrant for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The DTF officer said the Smiths, both of Opp, did not have any controlled substances in their possession at the time of arrest Friday, but after a lab report determined the powder in question from an earlier arrest was in fact methamphetamine, a warrant for their arrests was issued.

The Smiths were held on a $13,000 total bond, and William London was released the same day of arrest. But William Robert could not be released because his bond was revoked, the Alabama officer said.

A separate arrest from an outstanding warrant Friday was issued for Virgil Heiken III, of the Babbie community, according to another DTF officer. Heiken was arrested for trafficking, possession of drug paraphernalia, and manufacturing of meth oil, or a liquid form of methamphetamine. The oil was used for manufacture of the drug after lab results were returned, the officer said.

"We didn't recover any narcotics," said the officer. "We just had warrants after information from the lab came back for testing on the (meth oil) found."

Heiken is being held at the Covington County, Alabama Jail on a $520,000 bond.

Another drug arrest was made Sunday after a traffic stop in Gantt, according to Alabama State Trooper David Truman.

According to Truman, Jermaine Stallworth of Troy was stopped for an improper turn. After attempting to avoid a license check, Stallworth was arrested for DUI. A search of the vehicle was conducted, and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia were found in the vehicle, added Truman.

Stallworth is currently being held on a $17,250 bond.
