Nearly 5,000 Marshall County, Alabama children have graduated from the DARE program in the past seven years. Through the program, Alabama deputies conduct jail tours to show children where a life of drug abuse and crime can lead.
Alabama Officers distribute DARE materials to thousands of children each year at fingerprinting sessions at local department stores. Alabama Officers are also actively involved in the community to attending crime watch and parent teacher organization meetings.
This year, the department plans to implement two new programs. Guiding Good Choices and Families That Care are designed to promote positive parenting and improve family communication.
Riley awarded the grant from funds made available to the state through a program of the U.S. Dept. of Education. He has directed the Alabama Dept. of Economic and Community Affairs to administer the grant.
